Making Heirloom Toys – Jim Makowicki
Jim Makowicki has created a very informative and detailed book with a selection of 22 first class wooden toys for you to make. He starts with the ‘Grasshopper’, this was the toy that launched his toy making career and he is rightly proud of this enjoyable little toy.
It has evolved since its first version and now proudly displays it’s bright eyes, floppy antennae and rapid action legs. The Grasshopper is pretty easy to build and kids love it; even some of us big kids!
Jim Makowickis’ wooden toys have an attention to detail and advanced design features that set them above many other wooden toy designs. This collection is no exception to that quality and the 22 included designs are mainly transport type and educational toys. Each project includes a full page photograph, detailed drawings, a parts list, construction photos and concise step by step instructions to make the toy.
There is a colour gallery with all the toys displayed proudly for you to see. The first two chapters include details about the finer points of toy making as well as useful techniques for working with small parts. You will also find out about some great ways to finish your toys.
